Walleye, its whats for dinner 1.16.11

High winds and temps in the single digits kept me off the river and in this ice shanty this weekend.  I fished Saturday evening and Sunday morning...overall, fishing was slow.  I've been concentrating on an area I frequently fish in the spring, however, have never ice fished before.  The numbers are lower, but I've been consistently finding some bigger fish.
Burr!
Tips up with minnows outside and small jigs under floats in the shanty have been producing.  Drops offs and rock reefs in 15-30fow are excellent areas to fish for walleye.  Jigging small spoons can also be productive.

  5. Ok...I'll take that trade. Walleye may be filet mignon, but perch are the venison backstraps of the fish world! LOL

  6. Gills & perch vs. Walleye?...ya'll are crazy! At least the 3 of us would get along well on the ice...

Mr. Anonymous, I know who you are, and yes you're absolutely nuts for chasing chrome in 20deg/20mph weather. I like it, but you're nuts bro. Good luck this weekend, I'll be tying bugs for the next warm up.
